The
Car-Topper 9™ Dinghy is a hybrid structure with a plywood
bottom and aircraft topsides. The combination has proved to be an
outstanding success, resulting in a large stable rowboat that carries
three people with a generous freeboard. The use of a plywood bottom
makes it more utilitarian...sturdy enough for a small outboard.
yet why bother when the boat weighs less than the motor.
The
sailing rig was added to the prototype boat as a retrofit. It worked
out very well with a modest size rig driving the light hull easily.
I had a 35 sq. foot Dacron sail built. Here is a place to experiment
with a low cost JIFFY-SAIL. The boat is so stable that it will easily
carry a larger sail in medium air, so try one about 50 sq. feet.
